The Team

Julie Dickson, Founder

As the founder of Fox & Boy, Julie is living out her dream of having her own salon in her favorite city—a place where originality and personalized attention flourishes. Voted one of the twenty top hairstylists in 2010 by Time Out New York, Julie has built an impressive and long-standing clientele for both haircuts and color.

Originally from Minnesota, Julie’s passion for hair stems from art, music, and culture, and is grounded in her rigorous training. Julie began her career in New York City, starting uptown at Clairol Inc. and The Minardi Salon, where she learned the rules. She later moved downtown to Dop Dop Salon, where she learned to break them. Whatever the neighborhood, Julie upholds her reputation for her polished yet cool hairstyles that enhance a client’s individual features, unique style and personal esthetic.

“I’m different from the average hairstylist because I’m a ‘why girl’. I love finding out what's in a product and why it is or isn't beneficial for different hair types. I also like to explain why something may or may not be a good idea for a client’s look. But ultimately, it’s all about making my clients feel comfortable, listened to, and helping them look the way they want to look.”

Boswell Scot, Stylist

Boswell is a stylist with a sincere passion for perfection. His search for inspiration and education is never ending—and his experience and creativity send each of his clients home with fresh and striking hair.

Professionally trained at the Aveda Institute in Saint Petersburg, Florida, Boswell specializes in men's grooming, as well as fine and textured locks. His highlighting and coloring services are tailored to each client depending on their needs and desires, whether its subtle glimmers or striking panels in a bold edgy hue.

"I offer intuitive consultations for those seeking something new but don't know where to begin. I work with you, listen to your ideas and guide you through the process.  My goal is to have you leave the salon feeling heard and in love with your hair.”

Patti O'Gara, Stylist

Patti had always craved the ever-changing life of an artist in the city. While growing up in the suburbs of Long Island, she envisioned making her way to New York City, in pursuit of a career in hairstyling.

Patti received her formal training at The Aveda Institute of New York.  After that, she completed a rigorous apprenticeship at Fox & Boy, under the expert guidance of founder Julie Dickson. As a result, Patti is fluent in the language of hair color. Whether it be a subtle or dramatic change, or a corrective project, Patti has the experience and knowledge of the latest techniques to create the ideal color.

In addition to color, Patti’s talents spill over into the areas of haircutting and styling. She will draw upon her unique perspective to achieve your vision of a "just right,” personalized image.

"The creation and enhancement of beauty has always been a part of my life.  My goal is to transform the elements of your natural beauty into a cohesive and customized style."

Christine Bartolillo, Stylist

Once a budding hair stylist during her high school years in Long Island, Christine is now a top men’s and ladies stylist and colorist who has worked with leading fashion houses, international magazines and some of the most sought-after salons in New York City. As Fox & Boy’s newest addition, Christine brings years of diverse expertise in hair styling and color, as well as a unique and cutting-edge eye for style.

Christine realized her natural talent at a very young age, and her Grandmother handed down the tricks of the trade when Christine was just a child.  She moved on to earn her cosmetology license while in high school, and then polished her technique while working for top salons in New York City.

She is an expert in ombré and in men’s and short haircuts—from scissor cuts to straight blade and clipper fades—which she perfected during her time at The Blind Barber and Birds & Fellas in Manhattan. Christine’s work has been featured in New York City’s Fashion Week, GQ Magazine, Harper's Bazaar and Time Out New York.

Steph Caldwell, Stylist

From there, she found her way to Dickson Hairshop, a small salon in the Lower East Side with a diverse clientele, where Steph perfected her talent for creating individualized styles that look like they walked off of a fashion shoot, but work for day to day.  Her passion for creating customized color techniques and styles help her work look unique and personalized for each client.

Steph has been profiled in Time Out NY, featured in New York Magazine, and has styled countless editorial shoots for local NY designers.
